Grey Coverage Plus Reformulated Red
Lucy is a grey client who loves dark to medium reds. As you can see from the before pictures her grey roots were coming in and her red was in need of a reformulation. Lori Esposito, Creative Color Director for Organic Salon Systems used Organic Color Systems Naturlite, Aqua Boost and a custom formulation to transform Lucy into a whole new person!
Pre-Lightening
First Lori started by pre-lightening the previously colored hair by shampooing the with Aquaboost shampoo to clean and open the cuticle. Then she followed at the sink by mixing 2 scoops of Naturlite Powder, 2 scoops of 12% Naturlite Cream Activator and 1 scoop of Aqua Boost Shampoo in a bowl (as a “Soapcap”). Next this formula was emulsified on the hair working mostly with the ends that had been previously colored. NOTE: Pay attention to the amount of lift that you are getting while letting this mixture sit on the hair. In Lucy’s case the processing time was about 20 minutes. To complete the pre-lightening step, Lori rinsed thoroughly then hood dried so that the hair is just damp and ready for color.
Coloring
For the color Lori mixed 1oz 5CR, 1oz 5FR, 1oz 6RC, 1/4oz 6BC with 6% Liquid Activator and using a bottle application worked the color in from roots to ends. Next she bagged Lucy’s color treated hair and processed under a warm dryer for 35 minutes. FInally she shampooed the color from the hair with Aquaboost Shampoo and then conditioned with Aqua Boost conditioner to close down the cuticle returning it to its natural pH.
Just look at this gorgeous, translucent red. It is healthier and shinier than ever!
Beautiful change for this lovely lady! How come none of the Natural color was used? I thought you needed to add N to cover gray????
When we work with the CR series it is not always necessary to use the N series, plus we used more that 1 color in our formula which will give much better coverage. By not using the N series it will allow for a more vibirant color! Hope it helps.
My first question was answered above. Second being that I had only been instructed to use the dryer for 15 minutes and process for another 15 or so without a dryer. After the 35 minutes stated above would you process anymore without heat??

Why would you pre-lighten this hair? Her before picture isn’t as dark as the after picture. I would think that would be unnecessary trauma to the hair.
