Hilton Bell Biography

Share

For more than thirty years, Hilton Bell has emerged as one of the foremost artists for hair and hair care products. As owner of International Hair and Beauty Systems, the sole U.S. distributor of some of the most innovative hair beauty products in the hair industry, Hilton Bell’s influence has raised hairstyling to new levels both creatively and environmentally.

His career had auspicious beginnings. At the age of fifteen he apprenticed under one of Australia’s top hairstylists, Leslie Hill. Four short years later he opened his first salon, where he quickly became one of the most sought-after stylists in the area. Clients were booking eight weeks in advance and the buzz created by this spectacular young stylist generated a substantial amount of press.

Before long he was expanding his horizons to other salons in Australia and traveling overseas to learn the latest styles and techniques. In London he met Trevor Sorbie and began a lasting friendship. Hilton helped organize Mr. Sorbie’s first Australian tour and worked alongside him in the show’s production.

Hilton worked for some of the top manufacturing companies in the industry and worked on creative teams for Wella, L’Oreal, and Schwarzkopf. As one of the most in-demand hair artists in the industry, he even had a client who flew to Melbourne from Hong Kong every eight weeks for a haircut. But despite all this he still found time to research and develop a new system of color consultation coding for hairdressers. It became known as True Colors by L’Oreal.

Hilton’s drive to influence all aspects of the hair industry led to the creation of a consulting company to help hairdressers manage their businesses with the right balance of artistry and enterprise. As Hilton put it:

“Hairdressers are artists…. implementing Creative Management Systems allowed hairdressers to concentrate on what they do best—create!”

In the late 90’s Hilton moved to the United States, where he settled in Clearwater, Florida. There his work as a creator and innovator in the industry only increased in scope. He found the Organic Color Systems product that was being used in thousands of European salons and imported it into the United States. His company International Hair and Beauty Systems soon became the exclusive distributor of Organic Color Systems in the U.S. The product has been touted as the safest and most natural color in the world. It is one of the only natural color products that leaves out ammonia but still gets results as good as—or better than—the chemical products. It is allowing many salons to switch over to greener treatments and more eco-friendly business practices that are safer for both the client and the environment.

For the future, Hilton plans to continue his role as an innovator. He is developing a new line of products to help other hairdressers perfect their techniques. Watch for new lines of products and techniques that will be released to help expand the field.
